11:10 AM 9/25/06 · The death penalty is one of those things that falls all over the place on the moral highground. While I personally sometimes feel it shouldn't be, there are other times I'm totally in favor of it. Regardless, I do feel that if it's going to exist it should be a public thing...like it used to be. Wasn't that long ago, relatively speaking, that executions were a public thing. Hangings in the Wild West, the guillotine in France, and scores of other ways. They were as much to mete out justice as to entertain...which may seem sick to folks now but times change.

It just seems less civilized to me to condemn a person to death and then shut that person away into a teeny tiny room so that they can be exterminated. Far away from the view of the society that enforces the system that ends their life.

When we execute a criminal, hopefully a deserving one, it shouldn't be away from the eyes of the society that allows his execution to take place. It doesn't matter that an individual wasn't on the jury that condemned that criminal because they are still part of the society that allows for that criminal to be put to death.
